TEN
VARIETIES OF BRUSCHETTA are the signature dishes
at the Portello Winecafe, a vintage oasis that opened in
Bend’s Northwest Crossing neighborhood in late
June. Owners Lance Newman and Mitch and Amy Chamberlain
are trying to introduce people to new and interesting
wines, Newman says. “Our wine list includes a lot
of local and Northwest wines, as well as
international.”Bruschettas range from white Tuscan bean with sun-dried tomato, to Brie and apple drizzled with olive oil. Light salads, panini and gourmet cheese and chocolates also pair with the wines. The café decor couples modern and rustic: Its tabletops are made of old cherry barrels and one wall entirely of reclaimed Oregon brick. The outdoor patio offers a sunset view of the Cascades. |
